Category:Horror anthology filmsThe Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) has released a statement condemning the re-education camps for atheists in China. The statement, written by Committee board member Dr. Victor J. Stenger, calls on the Chinese government to investigate the camps and release those who are being held.
The letter, published today, is a joint statement of CSI's national board, and marks the first time that the organization has used its formal name and a statement of principles. "The Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI) is the largest and oldest organization in the United States devoted to helping people critical of belief make sense of the world. We call on the Chinese government to investigate and release the hundreds of Chinese who have been held in re-education camps," reads the statement. "We urge the State Department to raise this issue with the Chinese government. These people have not been convicted of any crime; they do not deserve a prison sentence."
The statement reminds those who are concerned about the camps and the mistreatment of Chinese atheists that this should not be seen as a separate issue. "I believe we all share the same fundamental values of freedom of expression and freedom of religion.
